Unlike other tutors, I have been a college writing teacher and tutor for many years. So I bring a teacher's knowledge and skill set to my tutoring. I will teach your student to craft persuasive expository essays with a step-by-step approach to the writing process. I am patient, kind, and resourceful and my students often stay with me for a year or longer. They enjoy my relaxed but rigorous approach to tutoring. My education includes a BA Summa Cum Laude from Cornell University, an MA in English and a Masters in Reading from UC Berkeley.
Experience
When I taught composition and literature to college students, I showed my students how to write a powerful thesis and to structure an essay that flows from this thesis. I developed creative assignments to challenge students to think critically about literature. I inspired students to love poetry, and to appreciate British and American literature. Whatever the student's writing assignment, I can use my high school and college experience to help the student think creatively about the writing. I have helped students at College Prep, Head Royce, and Berkeley HS to write successful expository and argumentative essays. I work well with a range of students from those who are underperforming in English and history classes to students in AP English and college literature. .
